They look different for different cars. The best thing to do is go to an online catalog like:

look on the transmission
Look on the trans or under consoler below shifter, it will look like a electrical swith, and for manal look above the clucth padle.
the answer is the neutral saifty switch relays the starting signal to starter the neutral safety switch relays the starting signal to starter from ignition switch they look the same but plug up different make sure you have right neutral switch
Look under the shifter in the console area
Could be the neutral safety switch is not properly installed or connected. Look for a wired switch plug terminal that may not be connected.
the neutral safety switch is on the front of trans , unscrew the four screws that hold up the plastic cover, remove it then look at front of tran it will be right there.it will have the shifter cable attatached to it. loosen the bolt an make shure to put the van in neutral there will be a small hole at the top of the shifting nob put a small brill bit through the hole an through the safety switch this will aline the two an should start,
you do not have a neutral safety switch it is a valve in the gear box adjust the linkage put in first gear now to the engine bay look at the throttle now adjust the linkage see if gearstick is in the right place the engine must only start in park or neutral if not you must adjust the linkage.
look at the ground wire it should be black Also check the fuse Have your neutral safety switch checked. If you don't have any bad fuses and you've changed the bulbs, most likely it's your neutral safety switch. It's located on your transmission.
its on the top of the transmission just look and have a friend shift the gears and look for the shifter linkage its connected to the neutral safety switch just disconnect the shifter linkage and unplug the wire harness and take the screws off The Haynes manual has a fair picture of the switch and it's location.
