The "P" on a USA dime is a mint mark indicating the coin was minted in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania USA. Dimes minted in Philadelphia before 1980 don't have the letter P on them though.
If it's so worn that the date isn't visible, it's worth its metal value only - about 80¢ if it's an older silver dime, 10¢ if it's a modern copper-nickel dime.

If it's a U.S. dime with a date of 1944, it's a Mercury dime.

It is quite rare if it is a US dime because no dimes were struck bearing that date! If you've got a US dime with a date of 1932, it is a fake and is numismatically worthless.
