Only certain kinds of penguins lay eggs like the king and Adelle. They build them normally out of stones. The mother penguin lays the baby chick egg in the stones. To win a penguins affection, the male or female show off the size of their nest. If the other one sounds interested, he/she combines their stones with the other one to make a fully developed nest.
Most penguins live in colder regions in the Southern Hemisphere - i.e the Antarctic region so lots of snow and ice and they are of course sea birds so always near water. Some live on islands......BUT you DO also get penguins that live in warm countries e.g. The African Penguin and the Fairy Penguin (Australia).
It depends on the species. Some penguin nests are made of grasses, bark or rocks and such while others, such as the Emperor penguin, do not build a nest at all but incubate the egg using their feet and body.

No penguin 'lives' in a nest -- some penguin eggs are hatched in nests where there are no predators, but eggs can be moved by the adults to preserve them until they are ready to hatch.
