Wrong... You CAN beat a game (campaign + extras) and NOT get a platinum trophy. Some games require online achievments, whereas others may require certain achievements throughout the game. For example; Madden is known for having dozens of achievements during a game, like an interception that is taken back for a TD (Pick 6). Its possible to get a platinum trophy even though you cant beat the game.
As of yet, nothing. Its simple bragging rights, as are the other trophies.
On a side note, it would be nice if Sony offered some incentive for getting a platinum trophy. Maybe PSN credits or whatever.
