Priests do a variety of things for the community/parish . Primarily they help with everything church based . They are the ones whom do funeral masses , they as well do masses for weddings .They take communion(hosts ) to the elderly or sick from around the neighborhood. They also are 'psychologists'/'therapists' they speak with people from their parishes and give them guidance. A parishioner once said he spoke with a priest from his parish twice a week for a year , he said 'It was like getting free therapy sessions ' . Priests as well help with the parish schools . Considering they are in charge of the school next to the principal .You can always see them in a school functions , meetings or special events . As open as they are to speaking to people they also when available help people with their confessions . They are there for what a person would like to tell God , they act act as highways to God . Priests are almost always mistaken for sitting in their rectory home and do nothing except sleep and pray which is vital to a good life but they do so much for the community it's almost impossible for them to at times see their families much .

Further to the above, the term PRIEST is used to denote someone set aside by God to intercede between man and God. They are therefore given a measure of authority to teach, train and shepherd their 'flock' into faithfulness toward God.
Baptist churches use the term PASTOR, to place emphasis on the shepherding side of the calling, and a Baptist minister (priest) is ordained only when a church calls him to be their Pastor. He is taken into membership first, then set aside (as priest) to lead that particular fellowship.
For the most part the priest will have Altar Servers, MC's, Deacons, and other priests to help him during mass. In the actual church business, he will have his own staff members to handle things such as office work and finances.
That depends entirely on what position the priest has in a community. For instance, if he is assigned as pastor, then his responsibilities include every soul in his parish boundary. He is responsible for their salvation, he must administer the sacraments to them and look after their spiritual welfare. If he is assigned as an assistant, then he must do whatever the pastor assigned to him. A priest is primarily responsible to be an "alter Christus" another Christ. To mirror Christ's love in his life, and to show that love in the sacraments and shepherding the people to eternal life.
