Hi: A rusty drain pan indicates you have high potential for water leakage if not already. It may or may not be backed up with a emergency drain pan underneath it. Newer drain pans are usually not metal anymore. Yours possibly isn't either. I thought I had one rusted and took it out to find it was really fiberglass and just washed it good and put back in. Ten years ago!!!!! you can buy a replacement drain pan if your model isn't to terribly out dated. In some cases you can even have one made if you think its worth it. Hope this helps: Jimiwane

If your air conditioner is not draining properly, it may be clogged. To remove a clog once it has occurred, attach a wet/dry vacuum to the drain line outside (removing the paper filter first) and suck the clog out. One simple home remedy to prevent future clogging is to pour a cup of household bleach into the line from the inside. Or check out Servicelive.com if you rather a pro to Repair AC Unit for you.
