The ships are fitted with an underwater metal 'beak' , 6 to 12 feet in length , that will puncture an enemy ship below the water line causing it to sink or fill with water to the point that manoeuvrability is compromised thus leaving the ship crippled and unable to effectively engage the enemy ships .
