Best Answer

A television editor has the same responsibilities as a film editor, essentially cutting together different angles of picture, considering timing, aesthetics, clarity and performance, to best tell the story.

There are many types of editing jobs. What a copyeditor does for a magazine is very different from what a book editor does at a publishing house or a news, business, or fashion editor does at a newspaper. There's also a big difference between how you handle fiction and other creative content and how you handle articles, journalistic content, and nonfiction books.

A copyeditor typically reads written content and checks it for sense, clarity, grammatical and mechanical accuracy, and conformance to applicable standards such as writing giudelines and prescribed style. The copyeditor uses one of a number of available marking systems to indicate needed or recommended changes and to address queries to the author.

Depending on the type of publication, the editor may hand corrections back to the writer, give them to production specialists for inputting, or simply apply the changes.

A manuscript editor has to think about substantive changes and the structure and flow of the book or article as a whole.

Some editors are involved at the level of choosing what to publish and working with authors but not worrying about line-by-line corrections.

The editor in chief (not "editor and chief") supervises all aspects of writing and layout in the production of a periodical (e.g. a newspaper.) He or she is the ultimate authority over the content, style, and presentation of each article and also ensures that deadlines are met and that other aspects of production are properly handled.
