The cc stands for cubic centimeters, also known as milliliters, and is a measure of volume. In this case it is a measurement of the volume of the cylinders. If you think of the cylinder as a soup can, It would hold 175 cubic centimeters of liquid. In ounces that is 5.92 oz. (or about half a coke can) If you had a motorcycle that was 1000 cc, you could also say it was 1 liter. With automobiles they describe engine size in the same way except they use liters for most modern cars (I think the average Honda civic is about a 2 liter engine) or cubic inches for older American cars. You may hear of a engine being described as a 360 V8. In that case the 360 is referring to the cubic inch volume of the combined cylinders. They use cylinder size when referring to engines because it has a direct relationship to its power, in other words, it does not really matter how much an engine weighs or how much space it takes up, but the size of the cylinders makes a very big difference in its power capacity.
