The ignition coil on any engine converts the 12 Volt electrical charge from your battery into massive electrical voltages (over 100,000 Volts in some cases) which are then directed to the distributor, or, in some cases, directly to the spark plug.
check your distributor cap and rotor, check the coil, check the wires, check fuses for ignition.
