That is normal - in fact, it should be very dark. When you cut yourself and it bleeds, the mixing with outside air gives the bright red color. Blood is normally drawn from veins, and venous blood is normally deoxygenated and very dark red, almost a maroon color. Blood in arteries... or after combining with atmospheric oxygen, like you'd see when you get a cut... is the bright red color that you're more familiar with.
