In iphoto, event is a way for you to categorize your photos. For instance, if you downloaded pictures from a digital camera and had vacations, parties, and family gatherings, you would be able to sort them in events. Also, if you look under the "help" section in iphoto, it will provide more detail in sorting events and customizing it.
Picasa handles the iPhoto Library in the same way, with a small variation made for the way in which the iPhoto Library organizes your photos: If you've made edits in iPhoto, each album or event in your iPhoto Library contains an 'Originals' folder and a 'Modified' folder. Picasa scans the photos and videos in both the 'Originals' and 'Modified' folders, and displays a single collective folder with the most recent version of each file.
Plug your iPod into your computer and open up iPhoto. On the left side your iPod should appear under the tab "Devices." Click on your iPod and the pictures from your iPod should show up. Select which ones you want in your iPhoto library and click "import selected" or select "import all." The photos will appear as a new event in your iPhoto library.
An exclamation mark is shown when iPhoto has lost track of the photo in it's catalogue - usually because of duplicated names or Event names etc. Select the photo's thumbnail image and select "Revert to Original" from iPhoto's "Photos" menu to correct the problem.

This is a very simple task in iPhoto 09. Simply go to your album and select all of the pictures that you want in the new event. (This can be done by holding down the Command key while clicking on the pictures you want to select.) Then go to the Events menu at the top of the screen and select Create Event. A new event will be created from the selected photos. Because photos can only be in one event at one time however, any photos added to the new event will be removed from the original events in which they appear.
