if its a check engine its a 911 code for misfire,meaning damage to emissions system will result from continued operation in this condition. Say like 12.6v is technically discharge even though it is charging, low amps say you have a Dodge or Chevy w V8 power everything w A/c 130 amp alt is required to keep voltage at 13-14.2. Amps keep voltage up. Example turn key and turns slow even though battery tests at 12.5 it lacks the 550 - 850 CCA depending on engine size. CCA = cold cranking amps. Usually a partially shorted cell in this case. Check acid in battery using a hydrometer check connections at battery. Ps a lot of newer cars have charging system regulated or controlled via ECM.
