A fragment in language arts (grammar/ILA) is basically a part of a sentence (a couple of words) that can't stand alone. It's similar to a clause. Here are a couple examples:

1) The cat ate

2) My mom

3) When I grow up

I hope this really helped! :)

In language arts, a fragment is an incomplete sentence that does not contain a subject and a verb or does not express a complete thought. It lacks the necessary elements to stand alone as a sentence.
