Call your local auto parts store and ask for a price on a re-manufactured long block for your vehicle. They will tell you exactly how much for the engine. There will be more parts needed to finish the job such as oils, filters, motor mounts, belts, coolant, etc. The labor to do the swap is another question that is hard to answer without having more information about the vehicle.

You can save quite buying reconditioned in some cases. Sellers of reconditioned goods often discount there wares to reflect the amount saved by not going through a third party retailer, which can often be substantial. Reconditioned hot tubs often include an original body with new pumps or filtration. Reconditioned hot tubs can give you a great "bang for your buck" as they often cost half what an equivalent new hot tub would cost.

It sounds like you need to get your starter motor, repaired, reconditioned or replaced. I had this problem a few months ago, but since getting it reconditioned, it's working perfectly again !
4cyl. 2.3 L unless it has a v6
I had a reconditioned unit put in... cost £70.00 with labour of £20. However, I still have the same problem. An electrician advised that reconditioned are not all that. New cars are more sensitive to the amount of power being supplied.
$25 -50 or 60 depending if it is latest model and reconditioned
Today, more than ever consumers are trying to get the best quality purchases possible at the lowest cost. Many consumers in need of appliances have begun to buy reconditioned appliances to help save more money. There are pros and cons to buying either new or reconditioned appliances. Reconditioned appliances cost much less than new appliances but may have the worn external look or the warranty offered may only cover the parts changed during the recondition. New appliances will cost more but will have the picture perfect external look and have a warranty on the appliance and all of its parts. For example, if someone is in the market for a new refrigerator, new refrigerators cost anywhere from $700.00 - $2000.00. Reconditioned or refurbished refrigerators can cost anywhere from $150.00 - $800.00 and they may or may not offer a warranty with the purchase. It is more of a personal gain or loss when choosing between new or reconditioned appliances, pay more for a new appliance but receive the brand new look
Gamestop sell them reconditioned for $199.99 on August 24 2011
4cyl sets you back about 175 including deposit return from the old one. This is part only, and the alternator is kind of a pain to get to because you have to remove one of the motor mounts to get to it. If you take it to a garage expect to pay at least 3 hours of their labor cost in addition to the cost of the part.
That depends on a few things. 1 What the make and model of the vehicle is. 2 If you want a new starter. 3 If you want a reconditioned starter. 4 If you want a used started. Best advise is to shop around until you find the best price.
