It means that at this point, he just wants to be friends. I know some people will disagree with me, but I think having friends is a good thing; I know you might prefer something more, like romance, but he may not be ready. So if you like him, it might be okay to just be his friend for now. Don't pressure him, and don't expect that he will change. But once he sees that you are a good friend, it might become something more sometime in the future.

∙ 18y agoPeople can love another person when single, but don't want to get tied down right away. What many men don't realize is that in this modern society more and more women are getting married later in life and going after careers and having their children later in life. The percentage is climbing in leaps and bounds where women are equal with men as far as wanting to remain single until they attain their goals in life. However, there are still women that set their eyes on someone, want to date, get engaged, get married, buy that little house with the white picket fence and raise children. There is certainly nothing wrong with this at all and it just depends on the what the two people want. Sounds like this guy likes you a lot, but is being honest (that's rare these days) and letting you know that he doesn't want a serious relationship. So take him up on it! Go out with him off and on and date other guys. 9 chances out of 10 he won't be able to stand you going out with another guy. Go figure! Good luck Marcy P.S. Hold back with the goodies. ∙ 9y agoThere are many different meanings of a guy that likes you but he doesn't want to be in a relationship :
1. He doesn't want to be in a relationship because he doesn't want to ruin your friendship.
2. He's not allowed to be in a relationship.
3. He likes you as friend, sibling, etc.
4. Maybe he likes you for a reason (Like he likes you because you're beautiful, smart, etc.) or he doesn't want to be in a relationship because you are lack of something he wants.

∙ 18y agoIn my experience he may like you, but is not ready for a commitment. He may like the ideal that while he likes you, he can still do his own thing and not worry about being tied down.
