In MS Word 2007/2010 it is Columns on Page Layouttab.
Simply, Open "MS Word" >> Click on "Page Layout" Tab >> Click on "More Columns">> Go to "Number of columns" and choose columns that you want to create>> Click "OK".

If you go to the Page Setup on the File menu, and then the Sheet tab, there is an option to print them or not. In Excel 2007, go to the Page Layout ribbon, and you'll see Gridlines having both a View and a Print option.
Assuming you mean newspaper-style columns down the page of a word-processing document...Open a blank worksheet. click on Format, then Page, then click the Columns tab in the pop-up window. You can then design the number, width and the spaces between each. Click OK when done, and just start typing.
