It depends, it could mean they are concerned for the emotional welfare of the broken up person and want to offer genuine support and compassion. But unless it' your BFF, therapist or priest don't count on it. Because, the person could also be pretending to care so they can get juicy dirt on you, your ex and the break so they have something to gossip about with other people. Also the person could be trying to get sloppy seconds; they could be trying to take advantage of the vulnerable state you in in order to futher their own self gains.
