Nothing. Dreams are just deepened thoughts caused by the inactivity of the person. Everything in your brain shuts down except for your thoughts. Which causes deep thinking. People with the more complex dreams are people who typically have better imaginations and thoughts. Plus the fact that the rest of your brain is shut down usually makes you think that your thoughts is actually what's happening.
