Generally, you're not a service person, or you are and don't have your cap on or are in civilian clothes.
the real reson, no matter what anyone says, patroism(excuse the spelling). You say the pledge, and by putting your hand on your heart believe in the pledge. Same as a solider saluting while the flag is being raised. because we love America
No, this is an internet myth, based on a manipulated (photoshopped) image. The president and first lady know which hand goes over their heart when saluting the flag, and there are many videos on line that show them saluting correctly.
He puts his hand over his heart.
your right hand, over your heart (left side of your body)
You put your hand on your heart because it symbolizes you trust and love America.
The hand salute is a sign of respect given with the right hand to show no weapon held against the one you are saluting. As such, it could be rendered by anyone, military or not, as a sign of respect. When standing for the passing of the colors or the playing of the National Anthem, however, one's right hand should rest upon the area of the heart as a similar tribute. Recently, the U.S. Congress passed a law allowing veterans to render a salute for the national anthem or passing of colors rather than hand-over-heart at their option.
Right hand
I'm not sure what you mean by "at a right angle," but here is the proper way to salute: "To salute, all persons come to attention. Those in uniform give the appropriate formal salute. Citizens not in uniform salute by placing their right hand over the heart and men with head cover should remove it and hold it to left shoulder, hand over the heart." This information came from http://www.usflag.org/flagetiquette.html While it is not stated how to place the hand over the heart, it is customary to place the palm of the hand toward the chest.
yes! most people put their hand over there heart when they sing a national anthem but its not against the law if you don't!
You put your right hand over your heart with the Pledge.
No. The hand over the heart is not required. It is considered "expression" which is guaranteed by the First Amendment.
Pearl thinks the minister holds his hand over his heart because.... she thinks that is where the Black Man put is mark.
