your dog could be scared or protecting its territory. my dogs also bark at each other when they're playing. if your dog is staring out the window barking when people pass by then he's 'warning' people to stay off his territory. its an animal instinct thing.

dogs have been known to detect super natural activity as have many animals but that may not be the reason.
