What does it mean when a guinea pig loses weight?

If you're guinea pig is still eating regularly, which means, still eating pellets, still eating a lot of hay, and still eating her veggies, I would be concerned about the weight loss. Many times, weight loss in guinea pigs can mean there is something wrong. So you should definitely consult a veterinarian. Make sure the vet knows about guinea pigs, so try to go to a small animal or exotic pet veterinarian. You should be able to find one in your area in the phone book or online.

There is not really a food that you can feed to help plump the guinea pig up. If you are not feeding vegetables, then feeding your guinea pig veggies on a daily basis will help put some weight on her. She is too old for alfalfa hay, which is also higher in fat and protein, but it is also too high in calcium for a two year old guinea pig.

Once again, the food will not help if there is something wrong with the guinea pig, so please take her to the veterinarian.

Take it to an exotics vet immediately. Your pig sounds like it's in serous trouble and it could die if nothing is done. Try making a MASH of pellets and water and feed it to him so he'll make it to the vets. When guinea pigs' digestion stops they die.

One time my guinea pig was losing all of its fur. I had no clue why. So my piggy kept on losing it. Then he had a lot of scabs on himself and was bleeding a lot. Then one day he died. He had some kind of diese. I also had another guinea pig. He caught the same diese quickly after my other guinea pig had died. My mom soon took him to the vet and he had a diese. The doctor gave him some shots and he was lookin a lot better. So usually when a guinea pig starts to lose fur you should take him/her to vet as soon as possible. 🐹

Your guinea pig is most likely light weight because it has a serious yet common disorder called "Yurkinishma." This causes all of your pets skin to shrivel up and be sucked inside the body. This then compacts its stomach making it not able to eat or drink without intense pain. It also causes its outer to look more slimming and fit. Though you may be concerned that your pet is sick or has an eating disorder like anorexia, don't worry. Your case is much worse. Your pet has a solid 4 hours to live before it sucks its self up into a little pellet of fur and dies.
