Depending on the lawn mower
white smoke almost always means your lawnmower is burning oil. this could mean either your piston rings are worn and need to be replace ( can be done easily if you have the tools) or you have too much oil in the motor.
You have a bit of extra oil in the cylinder burning off for some reason
If its black smoke you are burning oil possibly due to oil getting in your exhaust by tilting the lawnmower on its side or your rings are allowing oil by.
When you overfill oil in a lawnmower it will smoke when you tip it sideways while mowing,it has no harm
To much oil. or the valve stem is loose and its leaking oil
Most common problem is a dirty/clogged fuel filter restricting a good flow of fuel to the engine. Otherwise, the carburetor needs adjustment. Or, if the engine is blowing black smoke before it dies, check the spark plug and the air filter, or a too rich mixture from the carburetor.
Lawn morwer white smoke when starting and again when turning it off. Does this hurt it. Do i need oil
Dirty carburetor.
out of gas or engine has problems; advice: consult manufacturer
It is difficult to start and emits a smelly white smoke once running.
Im guessing this is a petrol lawnmower. sounds like the float is not set at the correct level in the carburetor
Could be that the lawn was wet and that the white smoke was actually steam.
