Could mean a lot of things, here are some to check; Coolant level, coolant condition, stuck thermostat, plugged radiator, cracked cylinder head, cracked block, head gasket leaking, these are the most common reasons for overheating. Once on my Lincoln, i had some old newspaper that got stuck in front of the radiator, and it blocked the air flow, took out the paper and it cleared up. The radiator fan could also be inoperative.
