Although it is not common, I can verify that this sort of thing can and does happen.
I had a friend years back that so hated to have his photo taken that every one ever taken of him was distorted in some fundamental way. Although he claimed he did not purposely alter the images, I can say that some part of his mind was in fact controlling the effect.
In another case, the sister of a friend was under a large amount of stress and strain from both physical and mental health difficulties and the photos taken of her during that time tended to show the "stress' to a visible degree. Once she passed through the difficulties her photos cleared. As I understand it she later went back and destroyed all of the "effected" photos so I have no proof of the change.
