It is an engine misfire!
Its caused by a one or more cylinders misfire due to either spark plug, spark plug coil, fuel injectors or fuel control system.
Most likely though - it is a spark plug related.
As for the smell - Catalytic converter (CAT) is flooded with lots of raw fuel and gets really hot while burning it.
Bring your car to closest garage immediately and ask them to check scan codes. This will determine which cylinder therefore plug to replace.
Drive slow, don't rev your engine!
That's a misfire-ah....
Hey John==The check engine light is trying to tell you that something iis wrong. Takeit to Auto zone and have the codes read anD it wiss tell you what area to check. GoodlucckJoe
It could be (a) misfiring cylinder(s). Check the condition of your plugs and wires. Also, check if your engine mounts are not worn.
If your check engine light is blinking , that means a cylinder misfire has been detected
Engine Seized? Check for loose or corroded battery cable Check for bad starter Check for bad starter solenoid
When the engine light comes on and the car shakes at the same time, it could be the spark plugs or ignition coils are faulty. Misfiring is causing the car to shake.
If the check engine light is blinking that means an engine cylinder misfire has been detected
If the check engine light is or has illuminated, check for codes first otherwise start with a basic tune up.
WHENEVER the check engine light comes on, ALWAYS connect a code scanner to figure out why. The light is on to tell you that the computer has detected a "fault" and it wants to tell you all about it.
Check all front end components for wear. Then check the engine and transmission mounts as the engine could be shifting and causing the shake.
check your sugar level, sounds hypoglycemic, my opinion only.
Water in fuel? Have vehicle scanned to determine the problem
