If you subscribe to a service such as Security Screen where it forces an unidentifiable "OUT OF AREA" or "UNAVAILABLE" (notprivate or blocked) number to first punch in the number they're calling from before the call is connected, you may see the asterisk by the name on your Caller ID. This service blocks many robotic and telemarketer calls that cannot normally be stopped with simple Anonymous Call Rejection.
However, if someone live is calling and is determined to get through they can simply key in any 10-digit phone number. In this case the asterisk will show up on you Caller ID to let you know what name or business that number is officially assigned to, but to show you that it was keyed in and not the number that was technically detected (so it may not be actually from that number).
The UUU that shows up on a caller ID does not really mean anything. It is a glitch that occurs when the caller ID can't get the name sometimes.
