Seeing ghosts has been scientifically attributed to a number of natural occurrences, including but not limited to noxious or visible gaseous emissions, vibrations that affect the visual senses and nervous system (tested and replicated in labs with great success, inducing visual and auditory hallucinations, the sense of a 'presence', feelings of foreboding, and susceptibility to hysteria), electrical disturbances, intoxication, mental disturbance, emotional distress, or dreams (particularly when sleep is disturbed in such a way as to confuse waking and sleeping states).
Of course, if we ignore the fact that overwhelming scientific study has been unable to prove the existence of ghosts, it could also mean that you are either gifted with the power of seeing ghosts (rather than mentally or emotionally disturbed), or that ghosts wish to be seen by and communicate with you.
It is notable that a majority of malevolent encounters with ghosts are reported by individuals with a history of mental or emotional imbalance... but this in not true of all so-called ghost encounters, malevolent or benign.
