The blood takes a while to come out and by the time it is in a pad or sanitary towel it has become oxydised. That's why blood is darker when it's outside of your body. AND that is why it smells - I guess it's as though the "rotting" process has begun. Nice huh
It could be a sign of infection or maybe that you haven't been taking proper hygienic precautions. You should try flushing out the entrance to your Vag. regularly to avoid any blood clots remaining and being broken down by bacteria causing the odour. If the problem persists you should see a doctor just to bee on the safe side.
