If your boyfriend says, "I feel like I can't get close to you," then he is obviously sensing a barrier of some sort. Whether that barrier is coming from you or himself is up to both of you to determine. Talk it out. See if you can get him to put words to the feelings he's experiencing. Hopefully, once the issues surface and light is shed on them, the issue will resolve itself. Good luck!
