It is irritated.
The best thing to do is to wash it out with cold water, then use a hot compress wrapped in a towel and put it on your eye(s).
If the stinging continues, consult an eye doctor.

∙ 14y agoEye burning or stinging is usually caused by dry eyes. Try using an OTC artificial tear (stay away from Visine and Clear Eyes) since they will dry the eyes out even worse. I recommend either Optive or Systane.
