If you really like him and have been dating a little and he says he must be a loner, what he really is saying is he doesn't want to commit, but wants all the benefits such as sex without having to commit. If it's a friend of yours then they may be having a difficult time finding the right mate or just be fresh out of a bad relationship and they depressed thinking they are the ones that are At Fault and feel they will be end up alone for the rest of your life. If a male person of any age says they are a 'loner' this means they actually enjoy the solitary feeling of doing things by themselves such as hiking, ski boarding, etc. They often don't like to get too close to other people and prefer nature and possibly have an interest in animals. They use to be called hermits, but believe it or not there are many males out there that truly enjoy being alone and don't miss having a women around.
