the coolant temperature sensor is faulty. It will need to be replaced

A NTC thermistor is a temperature sensor that has a "negative temperature coefficient". That means as temperature goes up, the resistance of the device goes down over it's operating range.
take it to a mechanic for a diagnostic
It is normal for a temperature gauge to go up a little bit until the thermostat opens up and the cooling fan comes on. As long as it is not going out of the normal temperature range it is fine.
Yes, NTC stands for Negative temperature coefficient. This means the resistance goes down as temperature goes up. A PTC has a positive temperature change. As temp goes up, the resistance will increase also.
you need to replace either your coolant temp sencor or it could be your thermostate...but most likely it the sensor...i had this prob and i just replaced both to be safe
