If that's what you mean, don't worry. Most cats do that, even older cats. I guess it's some kind of kitty-kat Freudian behavior; it just reminds them of their mothers.

Lead was what the bullets from the guns were made of at the time. It was a very, very heavy material. Imagine a blanket being made from the very heavy lead, almost like a metal blanket. What he is saying here, that the death of his father was almost as unbearable as being under a very very lead blanket, weighing down on his body, sufficating him, etc.
