Jailbreaking your iPod allows it to run different types of code. After jailbreaking your iPod, you will be presented with an app called Cydia/Installer. Cydia/Installer allows you to install third-party apps.

"Jailbreaking is risk free and cannot void your warranty. You can simply restore in iTunes at anytime to get back to a factory state."
jail breaking and ipod touch or iphone is basically adding awesome apps that app inc. does not allow. You also have the ability to customize your device.
if you dont know what this is its a thing that hackers made and they put it on ipod touch and iphone and 1st generation ipod nano this is very bad to use because its hacked so.... yea its breaking ipod rules to and once you jailbreak it ive heard its freedom for ipod touch and iphone viruses yea so if u really want to get it i suggest you dont
^^^That was seriously painful to read. and you need to be a bit more specific with your question.think of your ipod in jail and has limits but if you brake out of jail you don't have limits. with a jailbreak you get an a app called cydia that lets you download tweaks/Mod/and cracked apps. but if it breaks you can restore it but if something is wrong with in side the device apple or your phone carrier wont fix it so it voids the warranty.

Actually, jail breaking or unlocking your Apple device is completely legal. There are different methods of jail breaking it. I would recommend using RedsnOw, those words exactly. Depending on what version of the iPhone or iTouch you have, you will have to download the iOS for it. As the earlier answer said, it DOES allow you to completely.... Ugh... Take over, I should say, the device and enhance its capabilities and totally unlock the meaning of an iPod. I have done it before and it is absolutely free, helpful, cool, a great experience, and it is all virus free. Anyways, I recommend jail breaking your device. Anyways, hope I helped! Here is the link to jailbreak - http://www.redmondpie.com/jailbreak-ios-5-on-iphone-4-3gs-ipad-ipod-touch-using-redsn0w-0.9.9b5-final-version-howto-video-tutorial/
A jailbroken phone does not intrinsically do anything. Jailbreaking does, however, allow you to modify the stock firmware. This allows you to do pretty much anything you want in terms of personalizing the look of the phone and installing unapproved applications. Depending on the Modem firmware of the phone, you may also be able to unlock the phone to use on other carriers.
After jailbroken, you can get many free apps.
Ok, let me start by saying Jailbreaking an iPod Touch is NOT illegal (Apple just wants you to think it is), Jailbreaking an iPhone is NOT illegal. ----->

Ok, I don't even know where to begin, Oh the things you can do... You can download themes to make you iPod or iPhone look cool instead of using the boring default theme. You can download tweaks to change things about your device (i.e. Pro Switcher allows you to run multiple apps at once like the Palm Pre) You can generate WiFi hotspots through use of MyWi if you have pre-existing WiFi or data plan connections. You can also change your boot logo as well as recovery logo for your device.
These are only a few examples of the wonderful and amazing things you can do if you Jailbreak you iPod Touch or iPhone.
Jailbreaking can do a multitude of good and bad things for an iPod Touch or iPhone:
It can do cheats on some games and the ipod, like changing the color of the "slide to unlock" But if you update your ipod after you jailbreak it, then your ipod would not be usable. I do not recommend getting your ipod jailbroken, or else if in the process something goes wrong, your ipod would not be usable.
Jailbreaking allows you to get different app stores from around the world and to get free games from apps like installous it also get your iPod themes tweaks and services
you can download themes and games and apps that cost money

For real bugs: man up and brush them of. For software bugs: update your software, it's probably apple's fault. Buying a new iPod may become your only option since repare is limited. If you jailbrake you iPod: If you jailbrake your iPod you should know what to do. Hard reset might help.
You can't, Itunes 3.1.3 hasn't been cracked yet.

When you jailbrake your iPod. If yo have Greenpois0n then you must use the installer it places on your iPod to manually install it. Redsn0w gives an option to auto install cydia for you.
Yes, the jailbreak will be lost. When you upgrade your iPod Touch software, it is completely reinstalling the software used to run it. When you jailbreak an iPod Touch, you are only jailbreaking the software, not the actual iPod.
