Poe writes about "a kingdom by the sea," meaning how happy the speaker is and how perfect his life is with the girl. I think that when Edgar metioned "a kingdom by the sea" he meant of Britain. But I don't think we can relate this phrase with the book "A kingdom by the sea because it was written in the 1980s but it can be associated because the book takes place in Britain which I find to be a possibility because according to his autobiography he did live there once and it was also around the time he wrote this poem so he must've been inspired by a love encounter during this time and inspired himself to write this poem.

The kingdom by the sea in the poem "Annabel Lee" symbolizes a paradise or idealized world where the speaker and Annabel Lee's love is eternal and transcendent. It represents their idyllic and pure love that is disrupted by external forces such as jealousy and death. The kingdom by the sea also serves as a contrast to the harsh reality of mortality and separation.

One interpretation of this phrase is that it refers to Poe's place of residence, the city of Boston, a harbor town "by the sea." In Poe's imagination, the bustling city, full of intellectuals, literati, and daring seafarers, probably seemed like a magical kingdom, inhabited by himself (the king of Horror and mystery writing) and his young bride (his cousin). Surely to him she was a princess.
