Tongan men wear a tupenu, which is a cloth that is similar to a skirt that goes around the waist and reaches below the knees and a ta'ovala which is a woven Tongan mat that men wear around their waist and tie it with a kafa. The shirt is usually worn with a collar. When going to funerals men usually wear an very large mat, which can be very old, and black clothes. Tongan women wear a dress and a tupenu with a ta'ovala or kiekie around their waist when attending special occasions. Otherwise Tongan women wear a plain tupenu. Where did the tau'olunga come from?

The Tongan Tau'olunga originated from Samoa.Samoan dance: "Taualuga" (pronounced, Tow-uh-loong-uh) literally translates into "Finale" or "Last dance to top it off." But the Taualuga is actually the last part that men put on a house or a "Fale" (pronounced fah-leh). So you can see the symbolism there.Anyways, I was talking to my aunty (She being Tongan...and honest) and she said in ancient times when Tongan Kings would visit Samoa, the Samoan Kings/Chiefs' daughters would come out to perform a dance for their guests (which was the Taualuga). The Tongan Kings adored it and thought it was one of the most beautiful dances throughout Polynesia. Hence, they adapted it to their culture calling it "Tau'olunga" which is very similar to "Taualuga."Now I don't even think the word "Tau'olunga" means anything but it is merely a word. I ask Tongan people what it means and some say it doesn't really mean anything....it's just the name of the dance. But that's also one reason why Ithink it originated from Samoa because the Samoan Taualuga has a meaning to it and the Tongan Tau'olunga does not.

How many space men have been in space?

"As of April 5, 2010 (2010 -04-05), a total of 517 humans from 38 countries have gone into space according to the FAI guideline [100 km up], (523 people have qualified when including the Department of Defense classification[80 km up])." Of these people, 15 actually reached "space" through an X-15 rocket (those are the 15 that made the Department of Defense definition, but not the FAI definition).
