Laughing puts the mind in a heightened state of awareness in the joy of the present moment. Once the fifteen facial muscles for smiling contract, the brain's neurotransmitters release endorphins to the nervous system which in turn creates a sense of euphoria. This lowers blood pressure while the rhythmic intermittent breathing created by the vowel vocalization pumps the lung muscles exercising the heart in a healthy natural way. Genuine laughter is healing for the mind and body. When the source of laughter is genuine as well, it is also healing for the soul.
