RE: What does "Love truth, but pardon error" mean?
If you look up the definitions for TRUTH and ERROR, you'll find that they have a couple of different meanings. Voltaire lived in the 18th century (1694--1778). Back then people used different meanings for words than what we use today.
"Love TRUTH (honesty; integrity; truthfulness), but forgive ERROR (wrongdoing; sin)." It means give praise when people do good, but when people do things wrong, we should try hard to forgive them because all people make mistakes.
Give praise when praise is due an forgive when mistakes are nade
From amor = love. Amen = to love. Amense = love each other, love one another.

Such a pardon is usually called an amnesty.
1. Thomas Paine meant that the more you inquire about something, the less error and mistakes come from it, and more truth will.It means you can not make a problem worse by inquiring about it, you can only lessen the error within it.
Literally it would mean "Love you are busy truth."
