Luke 8:15 - "But the ones that fell on the good ground are those who, having heard the word with a noble and good heart, keep it and bear fruit* with patience." [NKJV]

In this verse, Jesus is explaining to his disciples a parable He told in verses 5-8. Without going through a summary of the entire parable, the conclusion is that:

When God's word is received by people "with a noble and good heart," they will keep it, and be(come) people of character, productivity and perseverance.

*This "fruit" is the "fruit of the Spirit;" the ideal Christian qualities Paul names in Galatians 5:22, 23.

== == John the Baptist is believed to have been a holy man who lived a particularly ascetic life, eschewing all forms of luxuries and wearing uncomfortable clothing, much as the ancient Essenes are believed to have done. This verse, attributed to the angel, says that as a man, John will be holy, filled with the Holy Ghost and will avoid wine and strong drink, thus showing his commitment and willpower. The verse marks John as distinctive among men in that he was filled with the Holy Spirit even before birth.
