4993 in 2000 means that in 2000 someone reported to the DMV (or other agency) that the car had 4,993 miles on the odometer. 58905 in 2002 means that in 2002 someone reported to the DMV (or other agency) that the car had 58,905 miles on the odometer. It is only something to worry about if the reading is - rolled back, e.g 58,000 in 2002 then magically 5,000 in 2004. That means someone rolled the odometer back, or an error happened at the DMV. - inconsistent, e.g. in 2000 the mileage was 5700 and in 2002 the mileage was 6700. That's not many miles in two years. The car might have just sat around unused, or someone might have rolled back the odometer reading, or the odometer may have been replaced. Corrected title usually means that there was some incorrect info on the title so it was reissued. The DMV spelled my street name wrong on my title, now my autocheck shows a corrected title. Usually not a big deal unless there are other issues on the autocheck. Lien records- means that the car was financed and that the bank had a lien on the title, so if the owner defaulted on payments the bank could take the car back. Or, they didn't pay a mechanics bill, and the mechanic put a lien on it. If it's a private seller, make sure they have record that the lien is paid off.

Where can I get an auto history report?

There are two main companies that provide auto history reports: CarFax (www.carfax.com) and AutoCheck (www.autocheck.com). Both of these companies provide a comprehensive list of previous car ownership, damage and accidents, and both are used and recommended by automotive dealers. If you are interested in purchasing a specific car, a dealer will generally provide you with one of these reports for free prior to purchase. If you already own a car for which you would like to have a history report, then either the CarFax or AutoCheck sites can provide this for you. While they occasionally run offers for free reports, in general, you can expect to pay around $30 for a single report. If you have several cars for which you want history, both of these sites also offer a price reduction for multiple reports.
