The English use is for a billion to mean 1 000 000 000 000 but this is going out-of-date. While this was common fifty years ago, most people in England now use the American usage and mean 1 000 000 000

Someone may come along with a better answer than this but I would rather keep things simple. If you are to assume that the 1 to 400 model plane is the exact same density (mass/volume) as the real plane which weighs 500 tonnes or 500 000 kg. You take the scale of 400 and cube it 4003 or 400X400X400=64 000 000 this number represents how many model planes would fit into the real plane if they took on the property of liquid while maintaining their density. The weight of the real full size plane in grams 500 000 000g divided by 64 000 000 is equal to 7.8125 grams. You can test it out by calculating the volume of a sphere then double the radius and calculate for the larger sphere. What you should get when you divide the volume of the second larger sphere by the first smaller sphere is 8. The smaller sphere is a 1 to 2 model of the larger sphere and two cubed is eight.
