The poppy is the symbol of Remembrance Day because the flower was in bloom in the spring of 1915, on the battlefields of Belgium, France and Gallipoli. The flower has become synonymous with great loss of life in war.

Because they represent poppies from Flanders in Belgium. In this particular region thousand of lives were lost during the first world war. Poppies grew in the fields after the war. So the poppies don't directly represent the fighting at Gallipoli but are used to remember the dead from all of WW1
After World War I ended, red poppies grew in abudance in the wasteland where the fighting had taken place.
It is usually referred to as a Poppy, from world war 2, because Canada had lost many soldiers during that time. the Poppies are the flower which grows around their graves, thus making it a symbol for their remembrance.
The red poppy was adopted as a symbol at the end of the first world war in Europe. Basically, it symbolises the futility and senseless slaughter of war. And it enables we, who have not suffered what they suffered on the battlefield, to contribute money to help all our forces, past and present, that protect us from an enemy. Let us not forget.
