The US, Canada, the Caribbean and South America all use the 900 MHZ and the 1800MHz frequencies. Europe uses 850MHZ and 1900MHz frequencies. So, basically if you live in America it doesn't really matter whether you have quad band or not, unless you are planning to move and still want to keep your phone.

Most people come across the term when it is used to describe a mobile phone supporting four frequency bands.
