The French Revolution brought about an end to the monarchy that ruled France, and established a Republic which represented more of the middle class or "bourgeois" as opposed to the aristocracy. The French Constitution was written, and without it the U.S. Constitution would have no inspiration of which to draw from when establishing the amendments.

The middle class people of France were known as the bourgeoisie. They represent the wealthiest social class, and are identifiable by their ownership of capital. In France, they represented the Third Estate, and were forced to shoulder the expenses of the first two estates prior to the French Revolution.
The French Revolution wasn't started by a president. At that time (in the 18th century) France was a monarchy (and thus had a King and Queen) and the lower and middle class society started the revolution.
The effects of the French Revolution went beyond that nation's borders. Within France new rights were being granted to previously neglected groups, among them the middle class, women, and Jews. Soon, France found one of its colonies seeking the same freedoms.
The French revolution changed the government and whole set of beliefs France was founded upon. The French monarchy became a French republic. Thousands of aristocrats and lower class people were killed.
