In my case the ABS Control Module is out. Its over $1000 to replace this module at the dealer so I just left it. Brakes work fine, you just don't have anti-lock braking.
You could remove the light behind the dash if you can't figure it out. Or you could fill your tires to the proper level.

I HAVE A 2004 MITSUBISHI ENDEAVOR, AND THE ONLY TIME MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON IS WHEN I FAILED TO CLOSE MY GAS CAP TIGHTLY. THE LONGEST THE LIGHT STAYED ON WAS FOR 3 DAYS AND THEN IT WENT OFF.
it means that the handbrake is on
fill tires to proper air pressure. light will not go out until you drive it a short distance.
Probably low on coolant, check the reservoir.
The owners guide for my '04 Endeavor says do not disconnect the battery I think, or the on board diagnostic record will be lost. maybe this would also clear the service engine light?
That lights means that your coolant is low.
The proper course of action is to have the car serviced by an authorized garage, who will reset the service light when they're done.
