World War II's affect was primarily felt from the Holocaust. The Holocaust demonstrated to the Jews then more than ever that they needed a homeland. It also galvanized international support for a Jewish State making Zionism a more viable reality. Because of this international pressure, the United Nations set about providing the Zionists with a mechanism for achieving a state. This increased tensions as Arabs in the British Mandate of Palestine and abroad were incensed over the possibility of Jewish State arising in the British Mandate of Palestine.
