In the book of Matthew chapter 9 verse 12 you can read "Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick." This is also recorded in Mark chapter 2 verse 17 and also in Luke chapter 5 verse 31. In the book of Colossians chapter 4 verse 14 you can read of Luke being the beloved physician. With these passages you can see that the authority is given to see a doctor when physicaly sick. Now through the care of the doctor he or she may prescribe or give you some type of medication for your treatment. In the book of Proverbs chapter 31 and verse 6 you can read "Give strong drink to him that is perishing." In this verse we can see that the drink is used as a medication. In old times pills were not used as they are today.
