The Min function gives you the lowest of a set of values in the values, cells or range you specify. The following function would display the lowest value entered in all of the cells between A1 and A12.

=MIN(A1:A12)

Min is a function which gives you the lowest value in a range of cells. So if you had a lot of numbers and wanted to find out what the lowest one was, you can use the Min function. As an example, if you had numbers in all the cells from A1 to A100, it might take a while to find which is the lowest, so you would use the Min function in an empty cell:

=MIN(A1:A100)

You would use it when you need to find the lowest in a set of values. It is the Minimum function. There are all sorts of occasions when you would use that. You might want to find the lowest score from a set of scores. You might want to find the month which you had the lowest earnings in a business. If you had a set of values for which you wanted to get the lowest value, and they were in the cells from A3 to A35, then you would do this to find the lowest:

=MIN(A3:A35)

How do you calculate minimum marks on excel?

You use the MIN function. All you need to know is the cells that the marks are in. Then in an empty cell you would use the MIN function to get the lowest mark of the set. Say your marks were in the cells from B2 to B15, then your formula would be: =MIN(B2:B15)

What function finds the smallest value in a list of numbers in Excel?

You can use the MIN function or you can use the SMALL function, using 1 as the second argument in it. So to find the lowest value in the cells from A2 to A16 the function choices are: =MIN(A2:A16) =SMALL(A2:A16,1) MIN would be more commonly used for the lowest value, but using SMALL you can get the second smallest by changing the 1 to 2, or the third lowest by using 3 and so on.

The range is the difference between the highest and the lowest values. You can find the highest using the MAX function less the value found by the MIN function. So if you wanted to get the mathematical range for the cell range A2 to A30, you would do this: =MAX(A2:A30) - MIN(A2:A30)
