The Old Testament is a true story of the history of the earth mainly though the history of the Jewish people. It begins with the creation of the earth by a loving God, then continues on to the fall of man where man disobeyed God and was cast out of the Garden of Eden. Then God promised to send His only Son to die for man's sins. It tells the true story of many people following a promise from their Creator. The Old Testament is the prequel to The New Testament in which God fulfills His promise and sends His Son.
